Mutual Aid

Berwyn is an active participant in a mutual aid group known as MABAS Division 11. Through a mutual aid box alarm system, we and our partner communities share resources and manpower for emergency incidents. This network provides organized responses to incidents that might overwhelm a single community.

EMS/Rescue

Other than firefighting operations, the department is capable of responding to a variety of incidents. Emergency Medical Services is provided by our 3 advance life support ambulances staffed by 2 paramedics. All firefighters are trained and certified as First Responders and can render basic first aid until an advanced life support vehicle is dispatched. Each vehicle carries a variety of first aid equipment and an AED. The members are highly trained in vehicle accidents requiring extrication of injured or trapped parties. We are trained in elevator rescue for people trapped inside. Through our MABAS Division 11 we have specialty trained Technical Rescue members for confined space, high angle, and trench rescues. We are also trained in Hazardous Materials incident responses.

Training Division

The ever expanding role of the fire department requires training and updating of skills. The Training Captain directs our personnel towards various goals in keeping with the mission of our fire department. Our personnel may avail themselves of the fire service related courses presented by various agencies in our area.
