The City Clerk’s office has many duties imposed by law under Illinois statutes and under Berwyn ordinances and resolutions. Some of the statutory duties imposed include keeping the corporate seal of the City of Berwyn and all papers belonging to the municipality in the custody and control of the municipality. The Clerk attends all meetings of the City Council including executive sessions and keeps a full record of their proceedings by creating the official Minutes for those meetings.The Clerk is required to post newly adopted ordinances, resolutions, meeting notices and agendas. The Clerk is responsible for updating the Berwyn Code of Ordinances as needed. The Clerk’s office assists in other city programs designated by City Council.

Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA) Officers

Berwyn ordinances and resolutions direct the City Clerk as one of the two Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Officers. The City Clerk is the FOIA Officer for all city records other than the Berwyn Police Department.

Berwyn Township

The State of Illinois Township Code and City of Berwyn Ordinances designate the City Clerk as the duly elected Clerk of Berwyn Township. The Town Clerk sits on the Berwyn Township Public Health District Board with the Town Supervisor and Town Assessor. The Town Clerk’s duties mirror those of the City Clerk. Additionally, the Town Clerk acts as the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Officer for Berwyn Township, Berwyn Township Public Health District, and the Berwyn Township 708 Community Mental Health Board.

Elections

The Cook County Clerk is the chief election authority for the City of Berwyn and more than 120 towns and villages in suburban Cook County. The City Clerk serves as the local election authority under the Cook County Clerk. The Berwyn City Clerk receives nominating petitions for the local Consolidated Primary Election and otherwise assists the Cook County Clerk with carrying out assigned duties.

Schedule of Regular City Council Meetings:

The Berwyn City Council meets on the 2^nd and 4^th Tuesdays of the Month. Meetings begin at 8:00 p.m. The public is welcome to attend. Attendees that would like to address the City Council in person may do so during the Open Forum portion of the meeting agenda.

Block Party – Event – Alley Clean-Up Applications:

The Clerk’s Office accepts applications for Block Parties, Events that require city services or use of the public way, and the Alley Clean-Up Program. Please read the application sheet for directions and timelines to submit applications for City Council approval. Applications that are submitted past indicated due dates will be rejected or returned.

Event Applications must be submitted to the Clerk’s Office and require approval by the City Council.

Garage Sale Permits:

Residential Garage Sale Permits may be obtained in person at City Hall. See the 1^st Floor Receptionist Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Front Yard Sales are not allowed under Berwyn City Ordinance.
